What Is It?
LA Weight Loss is one of the highly publicized diet centers across the US, Canada, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico currently being endorsed by Whoopi Goldberg in all of their advertising campaigns. This weight loss system recognizes that everyone is different and offers personalized programs including satisfying and well-balanced real foods, customized menu plans and one-on-one counseling for each individual. LA Weight Loss is one of the fastest growing center-based weight loss companies in the world that have helped millions achieve and maintain their weight loss goal.
The concept of the LA Weight Loss Diet is based off of the idea that the average busy consumer today can follow a diet plan whether at home, at the office or socializing out on the town. Their program teaches dieters how to eat balanced meals while utilizing the model of smaller portions, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, limited fats and oils. The plan is broken down into three phases – “Weight loss, Stabilization and Maintenance”.
Dieters are not required to eat pre-packaged foods (though you have the option to purchase if you wish), but instead are encouraged to eat “Lites” which are soy protein bars available for purchase through LA Weight Loss centres. “Lites” come in the form of shakes, hot chocolate or soups and are requested to eat or drink two “lites” per day during the weight loss phase of this plan, and one per day when the user progresses to the maintenance phase. A dieter can opt for an “all food plan” if they do not wish to purchase the “lites”, which can be rather pricey.
There used to be two options available to join this program (online or retail location), but from the website the only way to enroll now is through an LA Weight Loss center in your area. Dieters can look at the face to face meetings as either intimidating or advantageous depending on their personality. Without the online program available, it limits the accessibility of people joining to those who live near center locations.
Types Of Food
As a client you have access to hundreds of tasty satisfying recipes under the LA Weight Loss program. Some of these recipes include: Vegetable Ziti Bake, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Famous Philly Cheesesteak, Chocolate Truffles, Shrimp Jambalaya and many more!
Cost
The website states that there are several basic program packages to fit each individual’s budget depending on how much weight you want to lose and your personal profile. Only through a free 20 minute consultation at a center can you fully gauge how much will come out of your pocket with this program. We’ve estimated about $350-$400 for a year membership is what you can expect though including the purchase of “lite” bars. Some centers offer free trials and rebate offers upon completion of your program.
Be sure to ask your center if these offers are valid at your location! Not listing the pricing upfront can cause some hesitation to this program, but it’s a great way for the company to get you to go to the center to find out more information. Just make sure you’re getting what you want before signing anything.
Pros
» Can eat normal food, not pre-packaged foods
» One-on-One attention from counselors
» Customized meal and exercise plans
Cons
» Counselors are not required to be certified dieticians nor personal trainers.
» Even with over 700 locations, some major cities are still not serviced
» Time commitment to attend meetings with counselor
» Limited clientele due to inaccessibility of center locations (no on-line option)
Conclusion
LA Weight Loss claims to be a revolutionary weight loss program through its one-on-one counseling, non pre-packaged food meal plan and behavior modification approach though past clients may arguably disagree. It seems mind boggling that the counselors, who you are entrusting with your health, are not all certified dieticians or personal trainers, but are instead mostly former clients of the program. How do you know what they’re telling you is fact or fiction?
The upfront cost seems to be extremely high compared to other competitive programs and we don’t like the idea of any program pushing you to buy pricey supplements or bars. With the program only being available to those living near their retail locations now, it seems like a loss of some would be clientele. For those living near a center, it doesn’t hurt to make an appointment and find out more information on whether it’s suitable or not for you. Just be sure to be well informed about every aspect before signing anything.
Editor’s Note: LA Weight Loss has gained alot of popularity due to their success in helping people lose weight. LA Weight Loss is too expensive for me. I’m sure it probably works based on my weight loss research but there are cheaper alternatives. It is up to you but I rather go with NutriSystem or Weight Watchers personally. Good luck to all.
