The Truth Behind Restaurant Diet Menus

If you’re on a diet or just trying to eat healthier, it’s hard to resist ordering from the regular menu and kudos to you if you are able to stay strong and order from the “diet menu” if the restaurant offers it. But how would you feel that the diet food you order isn’t as healthy as you expected it to be?

Eight TV stations tested menus from popular chains such as Chili’s, On The Border, Applebee’s, Macaroni Grill and the Cheesecake Factory to see how much less calories and fat their diet menu really was.

“Of the 23 items tested, 78 percent exceeded the fat limit listed on the menu and almost 69 percent of the samples went over the calorie count listed.”

Reports like this can discourage you ordering from these menus but eating out is not always beneficial to those who are trying to lose weight or eat healthy. Another option is to try portion control where you can eat a portion of your meal and save the other portion for later. Not only will this help you control what you eat, you can save money also by splitting one meal into two!
