“Keiko Akai is very annoyed. The attractive 21-year-old university student has been planning to do a banana diet for some time now, but she can’t get started – and not for lack of trying. “I keep going to OK Store, my local supermarket every single day,” she says. “In fact, I’ve just been there. There are no bananas on the shelves, and it’s been like that for a month.”
What’s going on in Japan? It turns out that the newest diet fad in Japan has to do with eating bananas. It all started when a popular actress lost weight through the “Morning Banana Diet” and suddenly everyone had to try it. This has created a shortage of bananas in Japan and thus also driven up prices of bananas.
So how does the Banana Diet work? Pretty simple to follow which is why it’s so popular.
Breakfast: One Banana (or as many as you want) and drink water
Lunch: Eat anything you want for lunch
Dinner: Eat anything you want for dinner (as long as it’s by 8pm)
That’s it with a few other rules like no desserts after meals, and that you have to be in bed by midnight.
The Morning Banana Diet was created by Sumiko Watanabe (a pharmacist) who designed this diet for her husband.
