Most people think that cholesterol is mainly affected by hereditary issues but can be overcome with some exercise and diet.

The 56-year-old woman was not unfamiliar with cholesterol issues. She watched her father spend most of his life battling that and subsequent heart problems before dying last year.

Not wanting to suffer like he did and wanting a better quality of life, McEwen decided to make some changes.

“It’s definitely hereditary, and I was quite worried about it,” she says.

She found, in her case, cholesterol was not in the genes but in the jeans. At 10 pounds overweight, McEwen admits her sweet tooth was the main culprit.

If you have high cholesterol, don’t just think it’s passed on throughout your family. Try exercise and diet to help you control your cholesterol levels and live a healthier life.
